A Robin Redbreast in a Cage

okay idk if this is exactly like, MOMENTS, but here’s like, Top Five Storylines/Things/Whatever That I Like About Stannis Baratheon…

5. Stannis & Religion / which also has to deal with Young!Stannis:

"I stopped believing in gods the day I saw the Windproud break up across the bay. Any gods so monstrous as to drown my mother and father would never have my worship, I vowed."

“When I was a lad I found an injured goshawk and nursed her back to health. Proudwing, I named her. She would perch on my shoulder and flutter from room to room after me and take food from my hand, but she would not soar. Time and again I would take her hawking, but she never flew higher than the treetops. Robert called her Weakwing. He owned a gyrfalcon named Thunderclap who never missed her strike. One day our great-uncle Ser Harbert told me to try a different bird. I was making a fool of myself with Proudwing, he said, and he was right.” Stannis Baratheon turned away from the window, and the ghosts who moved upon the southern sea. “The Seven have never brought me so much as a sparrow.

It is time I tried another hawk, Davos. A red hawk.”

4. Stannis & the siege on Storm’s End, as well as his relationship with Renly:

The fact that he held Storm’s End for so long and he totally had little Renly to deal with too during that time and I’m just so curious about their relationship during that time what I wouldn’t give for a novel devoted just to that time, tbh.

also anyone who says Stannis didn’t care about Renly is a liar:

Only Renly could vex me so with a piece of fruit. He brought his doom on himself with his treason, but I did love him, Davos. I know that now. I swear, I will go to my grave think of my brother’s peach.”

3. Stannis’ devotion to his kingdom

Yes, it’s because DUTY, but perhaps that’s what this kingdom needs after having a leader obsessed with image and frivolity and a leader obsessed with fire and power.  He’s duty-driven, which means he’s going to be devoted NO MATTER WHAT. NO MATTER HOW DIFFICULT IT GETS. He’s going to LISTEN and try to make things RIGHT because that’s what leaders do.

"Few of the birds that Aemon had sent off had returned as yet. One reached Stannis, though. One found Dragonstone, and a king who still cared."

“I was trying to win the throne to save the kingdom, when I should have been trying to save the kingdom to win the throne.”

2. Stannis’ relationship w/ the North

Because Stannis is so Northern-like it hurts.  Also the entire “Who is Lyanna Mormont?” exchange with Jon.

1. Stannis’ devotion to his daughter.

"It may be that we shall lose this battle," the king said grimly.  "In Braavos, you may hear that I am dead.  It may even be true.  You shall find my sellswords nonetheless."

The knight hesitated.  ”Your Grace, if you are dead—”

"—you will avenge my death and seat my daughter on the Iron Throne. Or die in the attempt."

Stannis 3:16

actual sign in the crowd at Raw

when fandoms collide.

Stannis 3:16 says “The Iron Throne is mine by rights. All those who deny that are my foes.”

‘Whosoever believeth in me shall not perish, but wish that they were dead because my abilities at interpersonal relationships are sorely lacking.’

Can’t wait to see how badly HBO screws his character this season

She was weeping and her tears were flame.

oop found something in the stannis tag via gotconfessions:

Stannis is such a hypocrite! He always says: ‎”A good acts does not wash out the bad, nor a bad the good” He acts like he’s the most honorable man in Westeros. And yet - he has Melisandre who burns innocent children and he’s okay with it.

i’m in a meta mood today so lemme just get this off my chest in a post that could be titled “in defense of stannis baratheon” but considering that i’ll be disagreeing with the OP’s insinuations regarding stannis’ honor, then it’s not really much of a defense

"in elaboration of stannis baratheon’s honor" maybe? yes elaboration is a neutral, quasi-objective word

Sleepy Hollow premier was alright, but I’m wondering how long they can sustain this premise. When Ichabod spoke of this battle continuing for 7 years I groaned out loud. I fear it will turn into another Supernatural. I mean I was already rolling my eyes all over the place at certain times during the premier… I wish this had been made into a movie actually.

Btw, why aren’t people making good fantasy movies NOT based on books? When they are based on books I absolutely have to go read the books and then whinge about how the books were better. Because I am annoying like that.
